Kessa’s journey to counselling began with over 25 years of movement, facilitation and coaching. Her experience working with movement therapeutics, breathwork, and dance provided a deep understanding of our mind/body connection. Her approach is deeply rooted in nervous system regulation using Somatic Experiencing, DBT and CBT. From everyday life to childhood trauma our nervous system is communicating. It shapes with each experience, and it shapes how we show up in the world.
Areas of Kessa’s focus include, Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention, de-escalation, and Intensive Family preservation.
Her somatic approach encompasses interventions to treat a wide range of issues, such as Anxiety, Depression, Neurodiversity, Eating Disorders, and Trauma.
Kessa graduated from the Kelowna College of Professional Counselling with Honours, receiving her Diploma in Applied Psychology specializing in Professional Counselling. Her focus class was Child & Youth Counselling, with an emphasis in Play Therapy. She obtained added training as a Youth Mental Health Specialist with interventions for anxiety, depression, trauma, toxic stress and self-harm.
Kessa serves on the board of directors to the Canadian College of Professional Counselling and Psychotherapists.
