What Is Couples Counselling?
Couples counselling provides a structured, confidential space for partners to work through relationship challenges with the support of a trained therapist. Sessions focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and developing the skills to navigate conflict more effectively.
Couples seek counselling for many reasons: recurring arguments that don't resolve, emotional distance, recovering from infidelity, adjusting to major life changes such as a new baby or career shift, or simply wanting to strengthen a relationship that is already functioning well. Premarital counselling is also an option for couples who want to enter marriage with a strong foundation and shared understanding of expectations.
Counselling is not about deciding who is right. It is about helping both partners feel heard and developing tools that work for this specific relationship.
Couples Counselling at Vernon Counselling
At Vernon Counselling, couples sessions are led by Tina Comeau, MTC, and Niquita Eng, CCPCP, both of whom specialize in relationship work.
Tina has 12+ years of experience working with couples across a wide range of relationship challenges, from communication breakdown and infidelity to new parent stress and premarital preparation. She brings a CBT-informed, integrated approach tailored to each couple's dynamic, and conducts all sessions online.
Niquita's work centres on attachment patterns, relational dynamics, and communication, with a particular focus on helping couples develop greater emotional awareness and openness. She offers both in-person and online sessions from the Vernon office.
Common Reasons Couples Seek Counselling
Couples come to us at many different points in a relationship. Some of the most common presenting concerns we work with include:
Communication difficulties: recurring conflict, feeling unheard, or struggling to express needs without escalation.
Infidelity and trust repair: working through betrayal, rebuilding honesty, and deciding what comes next.
New parent stress: adjusting to the relationship changes that come with a first or subsequent child.
Emotional disconnection: feeling like roommates, loss of intimacy, or growing apart over time.
Premarital counselling: establishing shared values, communication tools, and expectations before marriage.
If your situation isn't listed here, reach out or book a session and we'll help determine the best path forward.
